Welcome to THE SNUDBALL PROJECT! “SNUD” was my mother’s nickname for me when I was younger than five. I always liked the sound of it, the way it thudded. “SNUD” had faded from my memory until one day decades and worlds later, it floated up from lost time, along with “BALL”, the surname of my birth, and – thud thud – “SNUDBALL” was born. THE SNUDBALL PROJECT is me – Sharon Ball -- at the far end of my life still trying to figure out what it all means.
I’m a writer of poetry and essays. A few have been published. I have also written unpublished short stories and songs.
I am a professional Life-Cycle® Celebrant for end-of-life and healing ceremonies and a nontraditional (read ‘elderly’) college student trying to finish the undergraduate degree I abandoned 50 years ago. I’m a former broadcast journalist, former nonprofit arts executive; former singer, and an unsuccessful candidate for the NY State Senate in 2016.
I live in an upstate New York village with my photographer husband and my little grey cat. I’m lucky to live across the street from my daughter, who grew up hundreds of miles from the up south city where we lived for nearly 30 years. I have traveled across the U-S and lived for several years in Japan. I am a former colored Negro and current Black African American, thankful to all my ancestors known and unknown, pure blooded and mixed, who flow through and breathe within me. My greetings to you and thanks for stopping by my website. I hope you’ll follow my blog, too, at snudball.com.
With gratitude, sb
